Investigating E/Iconomic Sediments was a research group that artist Philipp Schwalb and I initiated in 2023 at Goethe-Institut Rotterdam. Departing from Aby Warburg's Bilderatlas Mnemosyne methodology of viewing images in a non-linear way, tracing recurring visual patterns across different periods and cultural contexts, we explored various themes alongside a community of artists, researchers and cultural workers.
We organized a series of artist talks and workshops dedicated to image-constellations (Iconomy). The overarching theme of these public events was the interpretative complexity and current societal importance of discussing the concept of "Economy." So far, we have critically reflected on the economies of the gathering, the family, the art market and the senses.
